Helping Hands for Haiti Church-wide Rummage Sale
Saturday, March 6
8 a.m.–2 p.m.
On Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 4:53 p.m., the biggest earthquake in 200 years rocked Haiti.
How many are dead? How many are hurting? How many are orphaned? How many have lost their children to the devastation? Can you imagine your child wandering the streets of Haiti injured, lost, looking for some semblance of hope? Looking for you? This is just one scenario the people of Haiti are facing. Lack of water, health care, food, the unbearable loss of family and friends—these are the realities facing the Haitians. These realities will not be changed swiftly. Relief is coming slowly and this nation will need support for many years to come. Join the relief efforts of Covenant at “Helping Hands for Haiti,” a rummage sale benefiting the hurting nation of Haiti.
Tell your friends, your family, you co-workers, your book club, people at your gym, your neighbors, your bank teller, your grocery check-out, your school, and anyone else who may want to help us make this event successful. We need donations, volunteers and shoppers.
Clean out your desks, your houses, your garages, your storage units, your attics, etc., to gather items to donate to the rummage sale. For a person in Haiti, the efforts needed for daily survival are great. Surely we can make a comparable effort to rid ourselves of some of our luxurious “stuff” if it lessens the burdens in the life of even one person suffering in Haiti.
Bring your items to Covenant Presbyterian Church on Saturday morning, March 6, between 6 a.m. – 9 a.m. We do NOT want your items ahead of time. Some items may be priced ahead of time. Please help spread the word and start cleaning out!
We need volunteers for the rummage sale to help and man tables. Contact Gayla Zachry at gzachry@covenant.org for more information and updates on this momentous charity event.
Rummage Sale Pricing 101
What can I sell?
Anything that is gently used and can still get some love squeezed out of it. If it’s something electronic or requires electricity/batteries, be sure to put a, “Yes, it works.” sticker on it so people know what they’re buying does indeed work.
What if I have something that’s broken or needs little repair?
Avoid anything that needs repair UNLESS it’s broken jewelry. For some reason, people scour sales for broken jewelry.
How do I determine prices for big ticket items?
Usually at 30–40% of its worth.
What’s the best way to price items?
You don’t need fancy stickers unless you have them. Just write the price on a piece of paper, tear it off, attach tape and slap it on the item in a visible place.
What about grouped items, like clothing or books?
Sort your items by category. If you’re bringing a lot of these items, please bring them in a box. Clothes and books are more easily transported and sold when in boxes.
If you have a stash of unused plastic bags, we’ll take those, too.

Please price these items yourself. Do not use “cents;” we are rounding everything to the nearest dollar.
