Presbyterian Children's Home

Presbyterian Children’s Homes & Services (PCHAS) got its start in 1903, when a mother dying from tuberculosis asked her minister to help find someone to care for her four children.

Over the past century, this ministry expanded to meet the needs of today’s families. The Presbyterian Children’s Homes serve children ages birth to 17 who have suffered from neglect, abuse and abandonment, or children whose families are experiencing some type of crisis such as the death of a parent, divorce, illness, violence, homelessness, parental drug/alcohol abuse and other issues that threaten family stability.

In Austin, PCHAS has a group home for girls in Northwest Hills, a group home for boys opening in South Austin and a Child & Family Program that provides specialists to help hundreds of children throughout the Austin area.

When:
A variety activities occur throughout the year. Both one-time events and regular commitments are needed.

How can I help/participate?
You can help with the Austin area Presbyterian Children’s Home by

• providing transportation to children living in a group home (e.g., rides are needed to attend tutoring, lessons, etc.).
• serving as a tutor or mentor to girls or boys living in a group home.
• assisting with a holiday party or special event.
• performing light maintenance work at one of the Austin area homes.
• donating child and baby clothes, parenting books, cribs or other baby supplies to help at-risk families.

Please note that you will need to go through an orientation and pass a criminal background check if you volunteer to work directly with children.
