Faith in Action—West Austin
Faith in Action—West Austin (formerly West Austin Caregivers) is a coalition of 17 congregations that offer services at no charge to help seniors who do not live in assisted living facilities to maintain their independence and quality of life. Covenant Presbyterian Church was a Charter Congregation when the program started in 1985. These services include providing rides to medical appointments, shopping, volunteering jobs, and other destinations. Faith in Action provides two free weekly drives. They provided over 5,000 rides in 2007 and almost 10,000 volunteer hours. Faith in Action—West Austin is run by two staff members, a board of directors, an interfaith coalition of 17 congregations and more than 125 volunteers.
When:
Volunteers may be asked to provide services throughout the week, or they may visit or run errands for older adults during their own time frame. They receive one hour of training. Also, 25 volunteers, usually members of the MOMs group, bake and deliver cookies just before Christmas as part of the Cookie Connection.
How can I help/participate?
