Club 56
Covenant ministry for 5th and 6th graders called Club 56. The ministry has a very big commitment to missions, with regular components of mission education and mission participation. More than 30 students have been involved in Club 56 so far, and it’s growing!
During the fall of 2008, Club 56 students learned about the “Grossest and Scariest stories from the Bible,” followed by a five week focus on mission and people of other religious beliefs. The study included how to recognize people from other religions in Austin as well as getting to know more about a far away country. Students learned how to pray for these people, both near and far. Each month, Club 56 also has a mission or community building project.
In the summer of 2009, Club 56 students can attend “Camp Mission.” During that week, students will participate in local mission each morning, such as visiting a nursing home, working at Manos de Cristo, and picking up trash in a park. They students loved it in 2008.
One student said, “Ms. Gayla, I want to do more – I want to serve until it hurts!”
Another student asked, “Can we do this all summer? This is the best!”
After serving each morning in local mission, students and leaders enjoyed lunch, then participated in a fun activity such as a movie or swimming.
