Frequently Asked Questions
Was the Christmas 2007 pilot a success?
The Christmas 2007 pilot was a success! Around 100 gifts were given and messages of hope and love were received. Both members and non-members purchased and received gifts. Almost $5,000 was raised for local and global ministries, and session decided to make Changing The Present available year-round.
Is Changing The Present available only to church members?
Anyone can give through Changing The Present. You also can put Changing The Present on your wish list!
Are Changing The Present gifts tax deductible?
Gift amounts qualify for tax deductions, but greeting card purchases do not. You will receive a receipt via email for use in tax filing.
When can I give a gift through Changing The Present?
Changing The Present is available year-round and can be used for any occasion. Changing The Present also supports gift registries.
What happens to the money that I donate?
The Covenant mission committee receives all funds—less a small transaction fee equivalent to a credit card transaction fee—for distribution to the ministries you select. Our partner providing this service receives proceeds from greeting card purchases.
How were donations from the 2007 pilot program used?
The funds were distributed at the March mission committee meeting. In most cases, the funds are sent as a direct contribution to the ministry for the cited purposes. In some cases, the funds are used to support the Covenant activity described in the gift description. In every case, the funds are used for the specified purpose.
Can I pay for my gifts with check or cash?
At this time, Changing The Present only accepts debit or credit card payments; however, you can make cash or check donations through Covenant Hall at any time.
Can I give a gift for less than the amount listed?
At this time, Changing The Present is only able to process the amounts shown. To make a specific ministry donation through Covenant, please visit Covenant Hall.
Can I give a gift for more than the amount listed?
Yes. To give a greater amount, you can give multiple gifts that total the amount you desire; however, you do not need to order more than one card for the gift receiver.
How is my gift receiver notified?
Gift cards are sent to the address you provide. You can send the card directly to the receiver, or you can choose to receive the card to deliver personally. Email notification also is available.
What do the greeting cards look like?
The cards are printed professionally and are fully customizable. They feature custom designs, custom messages, photos depicting the ministry, a link to the ministry website, and a brief description of the gift. You can view sample cards here.
Do I have to buy a greeting card?
Greeting card purchases are optional.
How long does the process take?
Transactions are completed within 24 hours. Greeting cards are printed weekly and mailed first class.
Can I keep my name or the name of my gift receiver private?
Contact information is kept confidential. Your name is provided to Covenant unless you elect otherwise.
How were the ministries selected?
The mission committee is fully committed to all of our ministries. After careful review, the committee selected twelve ministries that represent how Covenant members share the love of Christ in Austin and around the world.
