Older Adult Fellowship

Our church offers a number of programs and opportunities for fellowship and congregational care to enrich the lives of our older adults. Monthly activities, special events, and ongoing church wide programs enable older adults to continue participation in the life of the church community and address their specific needs. Often times these activities are sponsored by a church committee known as VISIONS – Very Interested Seniors In Our New Seasons.

Some of these programs include the Armchair Travelers, VISIONS luncheons, VISIONS Travels, Long Distance Travels, and Kairos Class. Some programs are open to visitors and persons of all ages. Others have space limitations such as our travel groups and these are filled on a first come first served basis. A staff person for Older Adult Ministries helps coordinate these activities. We hope you will join us.

If you have questions about the Older Adult Ministries at Covenant, please contact Rick MacArthur at 334-3039 or rmacarthur@covenant.org

Kairos Class Spring 2008
Sanctuary Room 103

Kairos Class is a weekly gathering of older adults who have been meeting on Thursday mornings for about fifteen years. Coffee and fellowship are part of this time together.

This winter and spring we will study the art and architecture of Christianity from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance. Art works of paintings, sculpture, churches and cathedrals, stained glass windows, and manuscripts are some of the artifacts which characterized the Church during these tumultuous years.

This class will view these artworks via slide presentations. Discussion of these artworks and their meanings for Christianity will be part of our study. This class welcomes new members at any time. We meet from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Rick MacArthur will lead this class. For further information please contact Shirley Thomas at 512-453-4198.

VISIONS Travel

Each month the VISIONS Travel Committee plans and conducts a trip to see local sites of interest. Using the church bus and van which accommodate approximately thirty persons, travelers depart in the morning, eat in a restaurant along the way and return to the church by late afternoon. A variety of locations have been visited in recent years including local museums, theatrical and musical venues, nature cruises on local rivers, educational and medical institutions and new shopping centers. Sign up sheets are posted on the patio each month and names are added on a first-come first-served basis. Costs vary as do days of the week. If you have questions, please contact Rick MacArthur at 334-3039 or rmacarthur@covenant.org

Long Distance Travels

A new opportunity for fellowship for older adults began in 2007. Long distance travel trips with extended stays in various locations are offered from time to time during the year. In January 2007 the church sponsored a trip to the art museum of Los Angeles to view holy icons from Byzantine Christianity. The week long trip also included an architectural tour of various churches and cathedrals in that area. Future trips are being planned. If you have questions, please contact Rick MacArthur at 334-3039 or rmacarthur@covenant.org

VISIONS Luncheons

Each month from September through May older adults gather for a luncheon and a program called VISIONS Luncheons. VISIONS luncheons are held on the third Tuesday of each month and begin with a meal served in Eaton Hall followed by a program of entertainment or personal enrichment with a variety of speakers and presenters from both our congregation and our Central Texas community. Visitors and newcomers are always welcome.

Reservations for the luncheons are requested by telephoning the church office each month. The cost of the meal has been three dollars paid at the door. Details are published in the monthly newsletters and Sunday bulletin announcements. The VISIONS luncheons are sponsored by the Congregational Life Committee. For more information about the VISIONS luncheons or the VISIONS program in general, please contact Rick MacArthur at 334-3039 or rmacarthur@covenant.org
