Devin Rourke Loves Covenant's Youth Program

Covenant’s Devin Rourke, being interviewed by her mother Kali Rourke, recently reflected on her mentoring experiences at the church: “(Retreats) give you the time to really form a relationship with the youth. Taking people out of their normal environment and putting them together—those are really good things for the body of the church.

“One thing I really value about Covenant is that we let kids have a chance to be in leadership because it was very transformative for me. My senior year was a rough transition period and being a leader to those kids taught me more—I’m sure I learned more from them than they learned from me.”

Mary Jim McDonald on Coming to Covenant in the Early Years with Carl Eaton

“It didn’t take but one time with Carl Eaton; he had a way of touching your heart strings. His sermons, in some way, could speak to each person in the congregation.”

George McDonald on St. John's and Integration

“We helped the St. John’s Community get a building for their town center. Schools had just been integrated and the children were having a lot of trouble. We had people tutor kids from that neighborhood.”

Avis Davis on Bible Studies

"We started out with about 10 women on a good night. That has been a continuous study since the fall of 1996. It’s been the whole process of seeing women shaped by God’s word. It was our fervent prayer for many years to see men’s Bible study started. About 2000, men’s Bible studies really became a prominent part of Covenant. Both the women’s and the men’s bible study have deepened peoples’ spiritual lives in such a significant way and I see so many of these people in leadership at Covenant. It’s made the transitions from affecting their individual walk with God to affecting the community.”

Anthony Moreno

“I must have been three or four when I started singing 'Jesus Loves Me.' My father got interested when we had people come by and instruct us in singing hymns and reading the Bible.”
